Are Nigerians adventurous with food?
It goes both ways, Nigerians generally like to get comfortable with what they have available.

It goes both ways, Nigerians generally like to get comfortable with what they have available. Some others like to play around with new things while the rest do not like being comfortable with foreign foods at all.

Most of them give reasons like the taste is quite different and they don't like it. Some others believe in the school of thought that foreign food or delicacies might contain quite a large amount of calories, which ideally I don't think so.

Thing is, I took a toll and this is the reply I got from friends and followers on social media.

You might be disappointed when it comes to trying new food; left for me I would have a back-up plan. I can actually travel to experience nature, well food can be a plus.

I don't think Nigerians are adventurous when it comes to trying out new food. Personally, I find it hard trying new food because when I tried it at some point it didn't go well.

I feel a bit scared, especially when the food is strange, But generally, my comfortability rate is 2 out of 10, I'm never comfortable, I feel a bit nervous like.... what the hell is this!Bur then I love the feeling of tasting a new delicacy.

I don't really mind traveling to a new place to try out their food, I am all for a good time with food as far as I find it interesting.

I'm very comfortable with it as long as I'm a resident of that place😅. I'm very open to trying out new things.

I stay outside the country, I am generally exposed to advancement when it comes to technology and infrastructure. But, there's just one thing I miss Nigeria dearly for. You can guess that already, yeah food. I can't emphasize how much I miss the luxury of having Nigerian delicacies anytime I want it.

~ Ebuka

I wouldn't want to generalise this answer, I would rather share my story. I use to think that I was open to trying new things until I had serious reaction to a foreign soup I tried. It was so bad that I was hospitalised. After that experience, I decided to continue with delicacies I am accustomed to. So, to this I used to be adventurous; not anymore.

Of course they are one or two cases where a bad experience with a certain foreign food might dissuade an individual from trying out subsequent new foods because they fear the unknown, but I've met individuals including my younger sister 😃 who are fascinated by anything foreign or new.

In fact, I can say that 7 out of 10 times, some people randomly prepare meals and try to incorporate something weird or downright ridiculous in the recipe because they want to experiment with different recipes and see how it turns out.

The fear has created a subconscious response which I feel might predominantly be a reason for the apparent lack of an adventurous approach to foreign foods in Nigeria.

This goes to say, we have quite a number of Nigerians who are interested in exploring different ways food can be prepared and presented.

Recently, I've noticed alot of people are becoming receptive and are willing to explore. Especially now that a lot of foreign delicacies are being incorporated and mixed with our local dishes.

So, do you think Nigerians are adventurous with food?Well I'll leave you to answer that in the comments section. Tell me what you think. I can't wait to read your response 🤗.

FUN FACTS:

🍖 The meat of some species of poisonous puffer fish is a delicacy in Japan and Korea. Since its poison can cause near instantaneous death, only licensed chefs are allowed to prepare it.

🍎 There are so many kinds of apples, that if you ate a new one every day, it would take over 20 years to try them all.
